Search Announcement

Dear Berman community,

As your summer draws to a close and we here on campus have begun to welcome our students back to Berman, I am writing to update you about a transition in our school community.

While Rabbi Trencher leads the Upper School as its Interim Principal during the current academic year with Mrs. Roberts serving as its Academic Dean, it is time for Berman to undertake a formal, national search for an Upper School Principal. We are grateful to Rabbi Trencher for his interim leadership and delighted that he is interested in submitting his candidacy for the permanent position.

After considering proposals from a number of firms, we have engaged Atid Services, a boutique executive search firm, to assist in the search for an Upper School Principal. Atid has an excellent reputation for its commitment to help make Jewish day schools the best and most sought after schools in the world as well as providing the highest level of service. Lydia Musher, President of Atid Services, will be our lead search consultant.

Your participation will be critically important throughout the search for and eventual onboarding of the new Upper School Principal. We intend to bring finalist candidates to campus and have them meet with faculty and staff, parents, students, and other community stakeholders. We will actively solicit written feedback after those visits.

In alignment with National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) best practices in school governance, responsibility for the hiring of all faculty and staff ultimately resides with the Head of School. In an abundance of commitment to our shared vision, I have also convened an advisory committee to assist me in selecting the best possible principal. The committee of experienced Berman leaders covers many stakeholder groups and geographies: Mandi Lowenstein, Debra Reiter Panitch, Neil Rosenbaum, Orlee Turitz, and Reuven Zakheim.

As we proceed through the search, it is our intention to update you approximately monthly. We will also invite you to meet with and provide feedback on our finalist candidates who visit Berman. If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to reach out to me; my real and virtual office doors are open.

Sincerely,

Rabbi Dr. Yossi Kastan
Head of School
